Overview

This is the last volume of Virginia Woolf's letters, extending from 1936, when she was finishing The Years, to March 1941, when she drowned herself, fearing a recurrence of the insanity which had been a threat to her since childhood. But this tragic end to her life was not long foreshadowed. Until almost the final month she remained calm, happy and productive, delighting in the society of her friends, and continued to write her books and articles.
