Homer

Homer is the epic poet traditionally associated with The Iliad and The Odyssey, two foundational works whose creator cannot be given a conventional, securely documented biography. The Iliad concentrates the vast conflict around Troy into a shorter crisis shaped by Achilles' anger, honour, grief, and the cost of warfare. The Iliad of Homer and Iliad preserve that work in closely related editions without changing the poem at the centre.

The Odyssey turns from the battlefield to a prolonged homecoming, following Odysseus through danger, disguise, storytelling, and repeated tests of identity. The Odyssey of Homer and Odyssêy point to the same epic tradition through variant title forms. The contrast between the compressed tragedy of The Iliad and the restless movement of The Odyssey reveals how differently epic poetry can examine honour, memory, hospitality, and return.
