Patasana

Patasana by Ahmet Ümit moves between an archaeological dig near Gaziantep and the testimony of a Hittite palace scribe written roughly three millennia earlier. Archaeologist Esra and her team uncover tablets in which Patasana records love, fear, political violence, and his service to the court. As the tablets emerge, people connected with the excavation are murdered, turning scholarly work into a contemporary investigation.

The alternating narratives join the collapse of the Hittite world to later conflicts in Anatolia. Patasana's confessions expose the compromises of a man who obeyed power despite recognizing its cruelty. The modern plot confronts ethnic memory, nationalism, and cycles of retribution. Archaeology becomes a way to read what successive societies bury, not a decorative setting.
