by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
A new 2022 English translation of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's 1807 "Phänomenologie des Geistes" with an introduction and commentary on the text, followed by the original German text for reference. The American English translation is followed by the original German (transliterated from the old Frankur script into the modern German text) for easy reference and study. The original paragraph markings of the text make it easy to flip back to the original German to understand the original text better. Explanatory brackets describe archaic concepts and words, and an introduction to the English version orients the reader to the structure and content of the text. The Phenomenology is his magnum opus of continental philosophy detailing his attempt to re-build the metaphysical foundations of the Western world. It is his most shallow and broad work which touches upon all of his major lines of thought he would reference and expound upon for the rest of his life. Historically, it is difficult to find the outer limits of the influence this work has had. It contains the master-slave dialectic which would be inverted by the Marxo-Epicurian Karl Marx to create his ideology- the genocidal impact of which is impossible to fully comprehend. In this way, Hegel built the philosophical foundation of the western world. This volume 2 of 11 publications in the new collection of Hegel's major works from Newcomb Livraria Press.
