Despite the immense popularity Holmes gained throughout the world, Doyle was not overly fond of the character and preferred to write other stories. Eventually popular demand won out and he continued to satisfy readers with the adventures of the legendary sleuth. He also wrote historical romances and made two essays into pseudoscientific fantasy: The Lost World and The Poison Belt. John Gaspard is the author of the popular Eli Marks mystery series, about a working magician who stumbles into murder cases. In real life, John's not a magician, but he has directed several feature films that cost very little and made even less--and that's no small trick. He's also written multiple books on the subject of low-budget filmmaking. Ironically, they've made more than the films.
