by Maksim Gorky
MAXIM GORKY, the world's most outstanding working class (proletarian) writer, has been widely known and loved in his native Russia and among the other peoples of the former Soviet Union. His popularity extends around the world, especially among the advanced workers, revolutionary intellectuals, oppressed peoples, and women who are fighting for their freedom. In this collection we have included a small sample of Gorky's writings, demonstrating the evolution of his ideas and his mature worldview. Additionally, there are articles showing Gorky's interactions with the great leaders of the Bolshevik Party, Lenin and Stalin. This collaboration laid the foundation for developing socialist realism in literature and art. Lastly, we thought our readers could benefit from reading reviews of Gorky's work and his life-long defense of the proletarian socialist cause by fellow Soviet writers, before and after WWII, in the struggle against decadent capitalist literature.
