Lonnie Donegan

Anthony James Donegan MBE, born on 29th April 1931, Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland, UK, known as Lonnie Donegan, was a singer, songwriter and musician, referred to as the 'King of Skiffle', who influenced many '60s British pop and rock musicians. Brought up in England, he was Britain's most successful and influential recording artist before The Beatles. Lonnie had 31 UK Top 30 single hits, 24 of which came consecutively, including 3 chart-toppers, being the 1st British male artist to have 2 US Top 10 hits. Donegan was given an Ivor Novello lifetime achievement award during 1995, having been made an MBE in the year 2000.
