At University College, London, the corpse of Jeremy Bentham can still be seen seated inside a glass cabinet. This was in accordance with his own wishes, but scholars have never had the material available to understand his reasons. The heart of this volume, however, is Bentham's never before published justification for the auto-icon, as well as the medical, philosophical, and religious contexts for his thoughts.
