First published in the middle of the nineteenth century, the cycle of stories and short essays known as A Hunter's Sketches brought world fame to its author, Ivan Turgenev (1818-1883) and an enthusiastic reception from such writers as Prosper Merimee, Gustave Flaubert, and John Galsworthy.
