3 books

Winston Lord is an American diplomat and foreign-policy practitioner who worked closely with Henry Kissinger, later serving as president of the Council on Foreign Relations, US ambassador to China and assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs. Kissinger on Kissinger draws on a series of Lord's conversations with his former colleague about major diplomatic episodes, strategic thinking and the conduct of negotiations. Lord supplies questions, context and editorial structure, while Kissinger reflects on subjects including China, the Soviet Union, the Middle East and the relationship between power and legitimacy. The result is neither an independent biography nor a neutral archival history: it is a compact oral-history-style presentation of Kissinger's own retrospective interpretation, mediated by a participant who shared parts of that policy world.
